    New A1000 series was a huge step up from prior models

    The new A1000 models finally fit well into the Wilson glove lineup. The A2k and A2000 have always been great but the old A1000 always ended up with a wrinkled leather appearance and still weren't as easy to break in compared to a comparably priced Rawlings and other offerings.

    My son needed a glove that was slightly larger then what he had, but he still wasn't ready for a 11.5" glove, even in a youth fit. The 11" glove has been perfect in that he's been securing catches with much more regularity but its also not monstrously big or heavy on his hand. He is almost 9 and a bit small for his age playing mostly 3B/SS/2B.

    My glove is a 12" pitchers A2k, and my older daughter uses a softball 12" A2000. The 11" A1000 also has the superskin which I highly recommend. The stitching on the A1000 is not quite as good, but the superskin and overall fit/feel is really great. It does not feel or look inferior by any means.

    I did the room temp water dunk break-in method. Red stitching did not bleed. I had it practice usable in a couple weeks and game ready soon after. We did oil and shape it, glove took a very nice funnel shape which helps with catching in an 11" size. The leather is obvious not A2000 level but I suspect this glove will last the 2ish years we need it to. I like that a very young player can get used to the feel of a pro style Wilson in a leather toughness they can actually use.

    If the A1000 lineup can become more popular, hopefully Wilson will start adding more color options in the series. The PF11 only came in a tan superskin that looks OK but would really pop in some of the more festive colors Wilson offers in the higher models. You can custom order it in 11.25 and bigger sizes on the Wilson website for about 25% more.
